New Owner Training

When you purchase a Gammill Longarm Quilting machine from Highland Gammill, you will receive new owner training until you are completely comfortable with your new machine.  Your new owner training can vary based on your location and the type of machine you choose, and is customized to your specific needs.

Hand-guided Gammill machines

At set up and delivery, you will be taught one way to load a quilt onto your machine, thread the machine, wind a bobbin, and how to set & adjust your tension.  You will also be given information on what type of needles and bobbins to use, as well as instructions for your oiling routine.  The technician will also teach you the basic functions of the machine and how to take care of routine care and maintenance.  When the technician leaves, you will know how to operate your new longarm quilting machine!  From the time we arrive, you can expect this entire process to take 4-6 hours.  You are also entitled to spend a day with one of our Highland Gammill trainers if you desire.  We have trainers in multiple locations throughout Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming.  We will connect you with the trainer closest to you and you can schedule at your convenience.  If you would rather, we are happy to schedule live zoom sessions to assist you in completing your Gammill machine training.

Computerized Gammill machines: Statler and Elevate

Prior to delivery, we recommend a 1 hour zoom training call to familiarize you with Creative Studios 7, Gammill’s quilting software.  This will speed the learning process at the time of delivery. You will then receive instructions on basic edge-to-edge quilting.  It is helpful to have a small (under 45”) quilt or piece of fabric available to practice on.  When the technician leaves, you will have completed a small quilt using the Statler’s Edge to Edge function. We recommend you practice your edge to edge skills for a couple of weeks and gain familiarity with the software.  You are entitled to spend 2 days with one of our Highland Gammill trainers if you desire, or you can begin the live zoom training series.

We teach you how to use your equipment, however, we don’t teach artistry or longarm quilting technique.  For this, there is a wonderful library of videos and opportunities to learn from Gammill Educators at www.gammill.com.
